Project Description

A multi-disciplinary design team was commissioned by the Chicago Transit Authority for the signal and trackwork improvements of the “Blue Line” between Jefferson Park Station and O’Hare airport terminal.

KMI, as a member of the team, provided Architectural, MEP, and Structural engineering design for the signal relay facilities. These facilities included overhead steel platforms with deep foundations, or concrete slabs on grade for support of prefabricated relay houses along Kennedy expressway, reconfiguration and renovation of rooms at the O’Hare terminal, underground tunnel and CTA yard buildings. Four types of custom prefabricated relay houses with integrated MEP/FP systems were designed for platform supported facilities.
