Project Description

In an effort to alleviate rail traffic, the A-2 crossing, between the Milwaukee District North and West Metra lines and the Union Pacific Railroad West Line (UPRR) located near Western Avenue, was deemed essential to relocate about one mile east between Ashland and Ogden Avenues.

Consequently, nine bridges were needed to be inspected, evaluated, and repaired. In addition, some of the bridges required widening to accommodate a maintenance roadway along the tracks, and a new train wash facility needed to be constructed.

As a member of the project team, our scope of services consisted of inspection of two bridges, documentation of deterioration, analysis and rating of the bridges, design and preparation of repair details, special provisions and cost estimate.
